The Roseville High School principal runs Roseville High School with a smile, a microphone, and no known name. She’s the bouncy voice of school spirit at the spring pep rally, and she’s also the authority figure students get sent to when a volleyball game gets out of hand. Her bark, as Paulo can attest, is a good deal worse than her bite.

Personality

In Time Out, the principal finds a more heartwarming explanation than expected.

The principal is the kind of person who honestly believes the whole school is delighted to be at the pep rally.[1] She has an emcee’s patter, a bottomless supply of enthusiasm for a good cheer, and rather little idea of what her students are actually up to.[2]

She can be stern when decorum slips. Her students keep catching her off guard. She snaps at a heckler for inappropriate language at the rally in A Different Side, but is left baffled when the whole gym turns on Tess.[2] In Take Heart, a stammered excuse from Jasmine is enough for her to bless a table of dubious fundraising roses.[3] And when she storms in ready to lay into Paulo and Abbey in Time Out, the sight of Abbey comforting him melts her on the spot.[4]

Appearance

The principal settles in comfortably while school business becomes someone else’s problem.

The principal is a dog with drooping ears and glasses, and she dresses the part of a school administrator. In Feline Filibuster she wears a blue blazer over a black blouse.[5] At the pep rally she adds a bandanna for the teachers-vs-students games.[6]

Significant events

The principal celebrates perfect harmony at the pep rally in A Different Side, at least for the moment.

The principal makes her debut hosting Roseville High’s spring pep rally in A Different Side. She welcomes the school, has the choir lead the school song, and introduces the cheerleaders with real gusto.[1][7] After Daisy’s fall exposes her underwear, the principal glosses it over as a little mix-up and hurries on to the teachers-vs-students games, which the students win.[6] The rally falls apart entirely when she calls Tess up for closing words and the crowd turns on her.[2]

Following the student council election in Feline Filibuster, she greets Daisy and Sue as winner and loser. She shrugs when Daisy hands the post to Abbey, asking only who she’s meant to congratulate.[5] In Take Heart she approves Jasmine and Mina’s Friendship Roses table,[3] and in Class of 2008 she stands beside the vice principal handing out diplomas at graduation.[8] In junior year, Paulo and Abbey land in her office in Time Out after their volleyball fight, and Paulo walks out with nothing worse than a warning.[9]

Tess

The principal refuses to let Tess’s public humiliation pass unchallenged in A Different Side.

The principal is taken aback by the hostility toward Tess. At the A Different Side rally she asks for closing words from a student representative; another student shoves Tess forward, and the principal urges her not to be shy.[6] When a student in the crowd calls Tess a bitch, the principal takes the microphone back and scolds the heckler for it, and she won’t let Tess wave it off either. Her authority runs out pretty fast, though. She can only ask “What on earth is this about?” as the boos spread, and she ends up pleading with the whole gym for quiet.[2] At Tess’s graduation in Class of 2008, she hands Tess her diploma with a warm smile, which is a much happier way for the two of them to share a stage.[10]

Minor relationships

Students who land in front of her tend to get off lightly. In Time Out she arrives demanding an explanation from Paulo and Abbey, finds Abbey comforting a tearful Paulo, and asks instead whether the boys need some space.[4] Abbey covers for him, and Paulo escapes with a warning.[9] Jasmine has it even easier in Take Heart, where a made-up sports fundraiser earns her Friendship Roses table a wide-eyed “THAT’S A BRILLIANT IDEA”.[3]

  • Veronica describes her Feline Filibuster office appearance with “Remember the principal? Still as bouncy as ever.”[5]
  • Veronica’s commentary on A Different Side notes that the Tess-on-stage sequence was rewritten for the remaster. Originally the principal thanked Tess for her family donating computers to the school; the teachers-vs-students games took that spot.[6]
  • In the non-canon April Fools comic Disaster Dominoes, she is held at gunpoint at her own desk by Alec McCain as the story ends.[11][12]
