Cassidy is a brown, curly-haired cat and one of Jasmine’s regular companions, usually alongside Mina. Where Jasmine sparkles and Mina charges ahead, Cassidy tends to supply the dry aside or unimpressed look from one step back. She is happy to join the teasing, but much easier to fluster when the joke lands on her.

Personality

Cassidy gives Jasmine’s grand ambitions a dry vote of confidence.

Cassidy is the low-key member of a loud little group. She turns up for movie night, hallway walks and lunches, but rarely competes with Jasmine or Mina for the centre of attention. When Jasmine gushes about Environmental Club in Clean Slate, Cassidy’s entire contribution is “Let her dream.”[1] Asked to join, she apologetically declines because she has choir that year, then pouts when Mina announces that her own competing commitment is video games.[2] Veronica even considered giving Cassidy the flirt with Abbey in Love Again, but rejected the idea as “literally 0% Cassidy”; Cassidy instead watches Mina do it with her head propped on her hand.[3]

Her deadpan works best when she is playing along. At the Eagle Cinema in Payback, Cassidy gravely objects that a zombie film is “clearly inappropriate for girls our age”, then folds her arms and calls it “The obvious choice” once Mina picks it anyway.[4] When Jasmine offers to pay for everyone’s snacks, Cassidy struggles under the drinks and answers with a pointed “Always so generous.”[5] She is less composed when the teasing turns on her. In Good Egg, Molly asks whether Cassidy is not a little old for trick-or-treating; Cassidy goes straight after the laughing Mina with “Hey, she’s talking about you too!”[6]

Appearance

The curly-haired freshman stands out from the rest of the crowd.

Cassidy is a brown cat with curly hair that falls around her shoulders.[7][8] The curls are the feature used to pick her out in her early unnamed appearances, and Veronica later confirmed that the curly-haired girl writing beside Jasmine in Love Again was Cassidy.[9] For Halloween in Good Egg she dresses as Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, cup and straw included.[10]

Significant events

The current version of Love My Way places Cassidy and Mina together on the carnival roller coaster behind Sue and Alec McCain, well before either girl is properly introduced; Oliver’s commentary on the page notes that “lots of little details” were updated.[11] Cassidy’s first real story scene comes in Back and Forth, where she is one of the three freshman girls David pushes Paulo toward and all three are impressed by the older boy.[7] In class afterwards, the curly-haired Cassidy passes Jasmine a blunt note warning what Paulo probably expects from their date.[12] She is finally named in Carry Me, when Jasmine says Cassidy and Mina are taking her to the mall.[8] The book-exclusive Payback gives the trio a full outing at the cinema, where Jasmine discovers Paulo has secretly covered their bill.[13]

Cassidy is already taking notes when Abbey wanders into the girls’ orbit in Love Again.

By Clean Slate, Cassidy and her friends are sophomores, and Cassidy has choir keeping her out of Jasmine’s Environmental Club.[14][2] Abbey starts sitting with the group in Love Again, where Cassidy is beside Jasmine writing in a notebook when he arrives.[15] On Halloween in Good Egg, Cassidy proposes helping Abbey loosen up, only for Mina to interpret that as an invitation to bring out a carton of eggs. Cassidy’s “WHAT?!” does not stop the plan; she watches dumbfounded as Mina eggs Carol and then runs with everybody else.[16][17] In Fuel Economy, Cassidy and Mina arrive together while Jasmine is consoling Abbey, and Cassidy hides an amused smirk behind her fist as Mina declares that Jasmine and Abbey are finally “happening”.[18] Cassidy later appears beside Jasmine among the crowd celebrating in New Year’s Resolution.[19]

Major relationships

Jasmine

With Jasmine, Cassidy is affectionate enough to indulge her enthusiasms and familiar enough to puncture them. She backs Mina up when they rib Jasmine about her strict father,[20] and her “Let her dream” in Clean Slate lets Jasmine keep sparkling about Environmental Club without volunteering to join it herself.[1][2] The teasing gets more personal in Good Egg. Cassidy decides they ought to help Abbey lighten up, then puts a hand on Jasmine’s shoulder and adds, “You know, like Paulo helped you?” Jasmine answers with an angry blush.[16] Years of appearances keep putting Cassidy beside Jasmine even when Cassidy has nothing to say, from mall plans and lunch tables to the New Year’s crowd.[8][15][19]

Mina

Mina crows that she TOLD them so about Jasmine and Abbey, while Cassidy smirks behind her fist in Fuel Economy.

Mina is Cassidy’s natural comic counterweight. They are paired as early as the retroactive carnival cameo and still arrive at the lunch table together in Fuel Economy,[11][18] but Cassidy is usually the one reacting when Mina goes too far. In Payback, Mina greets Paulo’s secret payment with a delighted “Cool”, while Cassidy stares at her and asks how she got all those snacks.[13] Cassidy pouts at Mina’s video-game excuse in Clean Slate,[2] and on Halloween she first redirects Molly’s trick-or-treating jab at Mina, then answers Mina’s sudden egging proposal with a horrified “WHAT?!”[6][16] By Fuel Economy the pair are on the same side again: Mina openly celebrates the possibility of Jasmine and Abbey, while Cassidy’s smirk does the quieter version of the same joke.[18]

Minor relationships

Cassidy shares the lunch table with Abbey from Love Again onward and, on Halloween, is the one who suggests the group help him loosen up a little.[15][16] Her brief exchange with Molly in Good Egg is less successful: Cassidy needles Molly for liking a children’s show and immediately gets the same age joke thrown back at her.[6]

The current Love My Way page places Cassidy among the roller-coaster passengers well before her proper introduction.
  • Veronica considered having Cassidy be the one to flirt with Abbey in Love Again, but decided that was “literally 0% Cassidy”, so the job went to Mina.[3]
  • Cassidy’s listed first appearance is the likely retroactive roller-coaster cameo in Love My Way. Oliver’s commentary on that page notes that “lots of little details” were updated, but does not say exactly when Cassidy was added.[11]
  • Cassidy is unnamed through her early appearances. Jasmine first says her name in Carry Me, when she explains that Cassidy and Mina are taking her to the mall.[8]
