Candypedia:About

Candypedia is a community-maintained wiki about the Bittersweet Candy Bowl webcomic and its related projects. It keeps pages for the comic’s characters, chapters, locations, and books, along with the “All About Bittersweet Candy Bowl” family of pages covering the comic as a real-world thing. The main comic’s chapters get pages, and so do the members-only Bittersweet Club International ones. By its own admission, the wiki is still under heavy construction.

Editing is whitelisted rather than open, on the reasoning that an unguarded wiki quickly fills up with links to dubious pharmaceutical websites. To get access, join #group-project on the BCB Discord server and ask. The house style lives at Candypedia:Editing guidelines, which also covers the wiki’s policy on generated text (allowed, with care and labeling) and generated art (banned outright). History

Candypedia is not the first attempt at a BCB wiki. An earlier “Bittersweet Candy Bowl Wiki” was created by fans on Fandom (or possibly Wikia back at the time). It never really got going. In 2017 Oliver was trying to rally readers behind it, admitting he was “a little despondent” because it needed “a critical mass of users”.” This Fandom wiki is essentially abandoned today.

The current wiki, Candypedia, came about in the midst of the comic transcription accessibility project that began with the rewriting of Omnibus 1. Oliver recognised the value of these transcriptions in providing a base for LLMs to write the laborious hundred-plus chapter pages needed for a comic of Bittersweet Candy Bowl’s length, and worked on it on and off for years.

The MediaWiki software was set up in September 2024, when the main page read simply “Still setting up the basics.” Nearly two years later, after a lot of structuring and experimentation, the largely LLM-written wiki has been filled in, providing a basis for search engines and chatbots to find out about the world of BCB otherwise locked away in the comic pages.

Human contributions remain welcome, with the hope that a fundamentally complete and well-structured wiki is more fun for readers to hack away at than a totally blank slate.
