Miranda is Paulo’s boss at Burger-Tron, and quite possibly the biggest fan of his mopping in all of Roseville. She looks at Paulo’s fast-food job and sees evidence that he is good with people, enough to try to line him up with a summer job at her father’s company.
Personality
Miranda runs the shift like a coworker who happens to have the schedule. She talks in the same breezy slang as Paulo, treats his punctuality as a given, and hands out compliments without being asked for them.[1] What little the comic shows of her is entirely warm.
Her encouragement comes with no strings attached. When Paulo is at his lowest in College Material, she interrupts with unprompted praise and brushes off his deflection with a quick “Don’t be modest.”[2] The job lead she offers next is delivered over her shoulder while walking away, and she makes a point of leaving it open for him to think about rather than pressing for an answer.[3]
Appearance
Miranda is a cat with long flowing hair, and when she appears in College Material she is dressed in the Burger-Tron employee uniform.[2] The comic never gives her a look outside of work.
Significant events
Miranda first speaks in the BCI story Everyday Life. When Paulo bursts into Burger-Tron insisting that he is not late, she smiles and answers, “You never are!”[1] Her listed debut is earlier still, on a page where an unnamed background coworker chats with Paulo at the counter on his first day in Small Fry; the page itself never identifies that coworker as Miranda.[4]
Her one full scene comes in College Material. Shortly before she approaches, Paulo has called himself a hopeless case; by the time Miranda finds him, he is staring dejectedly into his mop bucket.[5][2] She tells him he has made a real difference at Burger-Tron, then gives him a lead on a summer job at her dad’s company and offers to put in a good word for him.[6] The chapter ends with Paulo promising to think it over.[3] By Rain Check he is still working under her, and after an upsetting visit from Lucy and Daisy he calls out to ask if she can put him on dishes for a while.[7]
Major relationships
Paulo
Miranda sees a lot more in Paulo than he sees in himself. In College Material she tells him he has changed the place for the better, and he bounces from mumbling modesty to a cheeky “Whatever you say boss I’m the greatest!!” in the space of one page.[2] When she suggests he could hang up the mop and use his people skills at her father’s company, though, he freezes up, blushing and clutching the mop handle, and can only manage that he’s flattered.[6][3] Whether he ever sent that resume is never mentioned again, but she is still the person he calls to when he wants to move onto dishes in Rain Check.[7]

- Her first speaking appearance is in the BCI story Everyday Life, published in March 2019, before her first main-comic dialogue in College Material in February 2020.[1][2]
- Despite her listed debut in Small Fry, nobody calls her Miranda in the main comic until Rain Check, when Paulo asks her to put him on dishes.[4][7]
