Candied Bacon is a comedic Bittersweet Club International-exclusive side story in which the school bake sale starts turning its customers into pigs, and Daisy is the only one who notices. It might have something to do with how generous Jessica has suddenly become.
Partial synopsis
The cheerleading squad is holding a bake sale at Roseville High School, with Daisy working the table. Lucy wanders up, confirms Daisy did the baking, eats a cookie and strolls off without paying. Daisy quietly reaches for her own wallet.[1] Mike pays the two dollars instead, sending Daisy into a full-on swoon. Jessica then gives him cookies on the house. During his reply, Mike turns into a pig without noticing.[2]
The other students carry on as if nothing has happened while Daisy walks through hallways shared by students and pigs. She overhears pig-Mike arguing with Lucy, now also a pig, over the unpaid cookie. He snaps, “It’s a bake SALE! They SELL things!” Daisy looks down at the cookie in her own hand and starts to wonder what is in it.[3]
Back at the table, Jessica has stopped charging altogether. The cookies are free now, and customers who eat them turn into pigs.[4] Daisy recalls a seventeenth-century witch who was burned for her transformation spells. When Jessica offers Paulo a free sample, Daisy gets him away from the table.[5] She admits that her theory sounds weird but tells Paulo that Jessica is possessed by the witch’s 400-year-old vengeful spirit, which hated men and cooked cursed food to turn them into pigs. Daisy warns him not to touch anything from the bake sale.[6]
Of course, somebody still has to get the witch out of Jessica before the whole school ends up in a pen, and Daisy hasn’t the faintest idea where you’d even start.
Trivia & observations
- The release newspost identifies this as Bittersweet Club International’s thirty-fourth story and runs through a string of pig puns. It describes the comic as “a mysterious story about pig magic”, urges members to “go hog wild with special benefits” and calls it a story for anyone “very interested in seeing what pig Lucy looks like”.[7]
- Katie needles Daisy during the sale. She mutters “boring” and mocks Daisy’s swoon over Mike with an “OH MIKIE YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE” impression.[2] In Rising Temperature, Katie tells Daisy that they are not in the same league and criticises Daisy’s appearance.[8]
Related chapters
- Total Recall: The chapter shows Stacy, Daisy, Rachel and Jessica as members of the school’s cheerleading squad, matching four of the girls at the bake sale.[9]
- Back and Forth: Jessica and Rachel reveal that each had dated Paulo under false pretences.[10] In this story, Jessica approaches Paulo with a free cookie.[5]
